I always thought he was the backbone of the band and his keyboard playing a Floyd signature sound. Meddle with the brilliant Echoes is one of my favourite albums. I remember seeing Floyd live at Pompeii in the local cinema in the mid 70's and it transformed my view of music. I've got it on DVD and will put it on later this evening in honour of a great musician. Very sad news.
