Lent and the Beatitudes
I have noticed a large number of search hits on 3 Minute Theologian for anything to do with the Beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount and Lent. As that time of the year is coming up, I thought I’d put in one handy place all the postings for last year’s series on the Beatitudes: Learning to Live Simply in Lent.
An introduction to the series
What is the Sermon on the Mount, and how can we read it?
Matthew 5:3-4
. Who are “the poor”, and what does it mean to be “mournful”?
Matthew 5:5-6
. Does “meekness” mean cowardice?
Matthew 5:7-8
. Mozart, Shakespeare and the seat of the emotions and will.
Matthew 5:9-10
. Hostility and Vangelis and being “nice”.

Thanks for this. I stumbled across it while hunting for a pdf copy of Simon Tugwell’s “Reflections on the Beatitudes” (I have a printed copy, but would love to have it on my machine for quick word searches and so on). At any rate, my wife and I may be coming back to this site during lent… again, thanks.

It’s a pleasure, John. The Tugwell book does deserve a much wider circulation. Perhaps it’s time for a new edition?
